Monthly Meeting
Date: November 15th
Time: 11 am – 12 pm
Location: Old 121 Brewhouse
Address: 1057 S Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80226
Our November monthly meeting will be a hop sensory evaluation. Old 121 received some hops from Crosby Hops, they have offered up the samples to use for this evaluation. We will have multiple lots each of Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook, and possibly another variety. We will take the hop cones, rub them together in our hands to break lupulin glands and warm the sample so we can evaluate the aroma. This is a great way to learn the differences the same hop variety can have.
2026 Leadership Team Sign Up
If you have interest in joining the LFC leadership team for 2026. You can use this form to nominate yourself for one or more roles by December 1st.
Vice President - Organizes quarterly competitions, organizes quarterly happy hours, and helps with monthly meetings as needed. Please note, this position is intended to be next in line to move to the co-president position in year 2, and ideally serves as co-president for 2 years (a total commitment of 3 years), if life allows (if life doesn’t allow…relax, don’t worry, have a home brew!).
Treasurer - Leads finances, club insurance, and manages membership lists and helps out the other positions where needed.
Communications - Leads club communications, including our monthly newsletter, website, text reminders, and social media.
Each member of the leadership team is requested to attend the bulk of LFC events and be an active AHA member. We’re very flexible and help each other out and are often sharing each other’s responsibilities - it’s a team approach.
If multiple people sign up for a position, club voting will take place between 12/1 through 12/14. Voting instructions will be sent to club members if needed.
Old 121 Brewhouse Scale Up Quarterly Challenge
For this quarterly challenge, Old 121 has let us know they will be doing a scale up! The winner of this challenge will get to brew their winning entry at Old 121. The only limitation to this challenge is that it has to be something fruity! It doesn't matter if you use fresh fruit or a fruit extract. Just make sure there is an addition of a fruit flavor. Entry form and drop off details can be found here.
Education Corner
Consistency Over Efficiency
While brewing, it can sometimes be discouraging when you brew a recipe and miss your target numbers. I will argue consistency is more important than efficiency. While brewing you may try to tweak your process to gain more efficiency. On a homebrew scale, this efficiency boost might be minimal in terms of cost. While it does feel good to save money. If you want to brew that same incredible recipe your friends and family rave about, the key is being consistent. Targeting those same numbers will make sure you’re as close to your original brew as possible… Not to say making changes to gain efficiency is wrong. But it can make it harder to rebrew a batch the exact same way, when each brew day is being tweaked for efficiency gains.
