September 2027 Quarterly Challenge
What’s this... An additional quarterly challenge announcement? We’re giving you a long notice for next year's September quarterly challenge. The challenge will be focused on Aged Fermentations. There are a lot of fermentations that aren’t able to have a quick turn around, and get immensely better with time. This is the perfect challenge for those. The goal is to give people plenty of time to start making and aging those entries.

Dry Hopping and pH
Did you know dry hopping a beer raises the pH? A dry hop addition of 0.5 oz per gallon raises the pH of the beer, on average, 0.1 units of pH. It’s really 0.08 to 0.14, depending on the hop variety, but let’s just say it’s 0.1 for easier adjustments. If the end of fermentation your beer has a pH of 4.3 and you dry hop at 1oz per gallon, you’ll probably go from 4.3 to 4.5 pH
Something to note, is these numbers are averages and are supposed to help you try and correct back to your correct pH. It is also good to note that pH is a logarithmic scale, not linear. So your finishing pH (before dry hop) can change how much the dry hop addition will impact the pH. But these are some rough average numbers to help you out. Keeping your own records of pH measurements before/after dry hopping and which variety of hop you use. Can really help dial in those numbers for future batches.
